Yorkshire Terrier
While it seems like a dog with a luxurious past, the Yorkshire Terrier began its days as a purposeful multiple cross bred dog used as a ratter for the working class of England. Today, the smaller size & long coat of the Yorkie make it a favorite of both pet homes & the show ring. The Yorkie seems unaware of its small size & loves to be a true terrier…curious, busy, playful, bold, & stubborn. He is also good choice for an alert dog with no major health concerns.
Grooming is a major factor in choosing a Yorkie. Whether the owner chooses to leave the coat long or keep it short, a good supply of brushes & other grooming tools, or a close relationship with a professional groomer, is necessary. When well cared for, the Yorkie can live 14-16 years.
